Nutrition Label (1+7)

The "1+7" nutrition information on a nutrition label refers to the core information including the energy and seven key nutrients: protein, carbohydrates, total fat, saturated fatty acids, trans fatty acids, sodium, and sugars. According to Hong Kong's Food and Drugs (Composition and Labelling) (Amendment: Requirements on Nutrition Labelling and Nutrition Claims) Regulation 2008, all prepackaged foods, with some exemptions, must have nutrition labels. This regulation aims to provide consumers with essential nutrition information to help them make informed choices about their food.

Option 3

Partial Nutrition Value Testing for Importing Products

In some cases, partial nutrient value information is readily available on some imported food products e.g. from Mainland China or Japan, importers can rely on this existing data, potentially requiring only partial testing or verification to fulfil the "1+7" labelling requirement, thereby reducing testing cost.

Option 4

Additional Nutrient Testing or Nutrition Claim Items

You may consider adding additional nutrient information on your products, like cholesterol, calcium, vitamins, and minerals, can effectively improve a product's competitiveness in marketing. By highlighting these nutritional benefits, products can be more appealing to health-conscious consumers, differentiate their products and build trust in purchasing the product.

Option 5

Nutrition Label for Exporting Products

To comply with food labeling requirements in different countries, prepackaged foods sold in Mainland China and other countries need to have accurate and comprehensive nutrition labels. These labels must adhere to the specific requirements and standards of the country where the food is being sold. This ensures that consumers are provided with the necessary information about the food's nutritional content, and that exporting products can be sold in the market.
